The atmospheric boundary layer is the layer most closely associated with human activities. It influences precipitation and climate through interactive mechanisms with underlying surfaces, aerosols, and clouds. A variety of ground-based observation devices enable continuous observation of five key vertical profiles over urban areas, including wind, temperature, humidity, hydrometeors, and aerosols. This approach helps reveal the structural characteristics of meteorological conditions and atmospheric boundary layers in megacities, as well as the influencing mechanisms of urban heat islands, underlying surface differences, and aerosol distribution.

Solution Overview

To meet the demand for high-resolution vertical upper-air observation data in the early warning and forecasting of severe weather, lidars facilitate the application of multi-source observation data such as weather radar and ground-based remote sensing vertical observation in numerical models, and enhance the monitoring capacity for sudden and disastrous weather.
Lidar products independently developed by Dashun Laser are capable of continuous observation of five vertical profiles: wind, temperature, humidity, hydrometeors and aerosols.
Joint network observation can monitor the generation, transport and sedimentation of aerosols and dust in urban areas, support research on the impacts of different dust sources on cities, and visualize the distribution and evolution of regional pollutants in real time. Combined with wind profile lidar monitoring, the pollutant transport flux can be further calculated. Joint observation of multi-parameters including temperature, humidity and wind field provides data support for meteorological environment, climate and atmospheric dynamics research as well as relevant practical applications.

The deployment of the multi-parameter profile observation system enables coordinated vertical monitoring of multiple atmospheric elements in the atmospheric boundary layer, including wind field, temperature, humidity, ozone and aerosols.
The system effectively boosts ground-based vertical detection capacity, elevates meteorological support for disaster prevention and mitigation, and provides technical backing for monitoring and early warning of extreme and severe weather as well as weather modification operations.

Visibility Network Observation – Qiongzhou Strait

A comparison between visibility lidar measurements and navigation suspension/resumption notices issued by the maritime bureau is shown as follows: At 03:35 on February 6, 2019, widespread heavy fog emerged with visibility dropping to 600 meters, leading to navigation suspension at Xuwen Haian New Port. Traffic control was lifted five hours later, and navigation resumed at 08:45. At 23:00 on the same night, heavy fog formed over the sea, forcing the port to suspend operations again. Visibility recovered at 01:40, and navigation was restored. Two navigation suspensions occurred during this period, both consistent with the low-visibility areas detected by the visibility lidar.
