A laser ceilometer is a radar device that uses a laser transmitter to measure cloud height and cloud cover. The laser emits laser pulses vertically upward. If there are clouds above the transmitter, strong backscattering will occur. The cloud height can be determined by measuring and calculating the signals received by the receiver.
