Background & Requirements

Wake vortex refers to the strong reverse rotating airflow generated by an aircraft during flight. When an aircraft enters the wake vortex of the front aircraft, it may experience body shaking, sinking, flipping, and other phenomena due to uneven force distribution, and in severe cases, it can lead to the aircraft crash.

Wind lidar has the advantages of small size, high spatiotemporal resolution, high data acquisition rate, and wavelength in the infrared band that is safe for the human eye. Remote sensing detection by wind lidar is one of the effective methods to truly obtain the wake vortex state, which helps to reduce aircraft takeoff and landing intervals while ensuring safety.

The lidar uses RHl scanning mode to scan and measure the direction of the runway, generates pseudocolor images, and obtains the profile information of the aircraft wake vortex.
