Wind lidar can be set up near the airport runway to effectively monitor wind field and wind shear information, automatically invert and process the collected signals, display real-time data such as wind speed and direction on the computer interface, provide real-time warning for wind shear, and quickly upload it to the control center through the network, providing effective guarantees such as warning and forecasting for safe takeoff and landing of aircraft.
On March 18, 2020, an aircraft encountered wind shear with increasing headwind during landing at a position 1.852 km away from Runway 18.
A wind lidar is deployed at the northern end of the runway at Shenzhen Airport. Its scanning range covers the full length of the runway. It can measure radial wind speed, wind shear and horizontal wind field in real time, and display alarms indicating wind shear intensity and occurrence location.
